Calvary Chapel Dothan – History

Our church plant effort began in earnest on January 28, 2010, when Robin Wilkerson was “Pastorized” and became a Licensed Minister of the Gospel.  He was then sent out by his Senior Pastor, Dave Perata, Calvary Fellowship Discovery Bay – A Calvary Chapel affiliated church.

The vision given to Robin by the Lord, and shared by Pastor Dave Perata, was to plant a Calvary Chapel affiliated church in Dothan, Alabama….Or as Robin puts it:   “We are to plant a Christ Centered, Holy Spirit Driven, Verse-by-Verse Bible Teaching Church in Dothan.  I know I have been called to plant The Word in the heart of Dixie!”

There are many denominational churches in Dothan, Alabama, but there are no Calvary Chapel Churches.  In fact, there are only a few existing Calvary Chapel Churches in the entire state.

Please Continue To Pray:  For this church (planted on April 11, 2010); that we will remain in the center of God’s Will & Glorify Him in all that we do!

Calvary Fellowship Discovery Bay – History

In early 2006 Pastor Dave Perata, following the Lord’s calling in his life, resigned from his position as a pastor at Cornerstone Fellowship in Livermore to start a new Calvary Chapel Church in his home town of Discovery Bay. Dave left with the support and blessing of Cornerstone, where he had faithfully served for over 5 years in a highly successful ministry for 18 – 30 year-olds called “Fuel.”

Dave and his wife, Valerie, started a home study in their living room, and people from all over Discovery Bay began attending. Dave, formerly an electrical contractor, began doing electrical work again to support his family while waiting to see what the Lord would do with the home study. It grew! After meeting for just four months the study outgrew the Perata’s living room. The Lord, always faithful, provided a new meeting place at Excelsior Middle School in Byron and Calvary Fellowship of Discovery Bay was born! Still growing, we now meet at Discovery Bay School.

The emphasis of our church is to make mature disciples of Jesus Christ by following the Great Commission, steadfastly teaching God’s Word, and joining together to pray and break bread with the body of believers. Pastor Dave’s calling is to teach and pastor those whom the Lord brings, and he believes that as we are faithful to God, He will then add daily to the church as Acts 2:47 declares.

As led by the Lord, he is now sending one of his own Elders out to go and plant a church in Dothan, Alabama.

Calvary Chapel – History

In 1965 Pastor Chuck Smith started his ministry at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa. Beginning with a mere 25 people, he saw God bless his simple, yet consistent style of teaching straight through the Bible.

Today Calvary Chapel has grown to over 1,500 churches worldwide. With a genuine heart for the lost, Pastor Chuck made room in his ministry for a generation of hippies, surfers, and drug addicts. This generated a stirring of the Holy Spirit, which spread from the California coast to the Atlantic and beyond. This movement was instrumental in bringing thousands of young people to Jesus Christ during the 60s and 70s in what was known as the Jesus People Movement.

As God expanded his ministry, Pastor Chuck’s visionary leadership saw the birth of other ministries such as The Word for Today, a publishing/radio broadcasting ministry which is heard worldwide. A noted speaker and the author of over 25 books, Pastor Chuck can be heard daily on television, radio, and webcasts throughout the world.
